This policy applies to all information collected or submitted via the Note Drop application (or “app”). The use of Note Drop in general is our “Services”.
Registration is not required to use Note Drop, however, the content will be read-only. Should you wish to post content (“drop a note”, as it were) an account is required. Only a username and password are required for account registration. Emails may be optionally collected. Registration via Facebook or Twitter (the “provider”) is enabled. When using this method for registration, we use OAuth in order to get a secure key(s) from the provider along with a username. We have read-only access to your account on the provider.
When requesting content (“notes”) around you, your location is submitted to our servers to access the data. Your current location is not stored permanently. You will be asked permission to use the GPS in your device, if you choose not to allow it the app can not function. Consent to location access can always be revoked via the devices settings.
We collect any content you submit to Note Drop (most notably, a short piece of text at your location, or “Note”). When submitting a Note, the location in which that note was created is stored along with the contents of the note with the time that it was created.
When you communicate with Note Drop in any other way, the information is collected.
The information collected is used to provide content to all users of Note Drop.
You cannot control who views your content; any and all content posted via Note Drop is publicly viewable. Keep in mind, in most cases your content will only show for people very near to where it was created. If you do not want to share something publicly, do not post it. You are not identified by name or other contact information to other users of Note Drop. However, we cannot prevent others from determining your identity from the content you post or how you share content through third party sites.
We cannot control how your public information and content is used by others.
We may disclose the information we collect to third party vendors, service providers, contractors or agents who perform functions on our behalf.
Business Transfers. We may transfer the information we have collected to another company in connection with, or during negotiations of, any merger, sale of company assets, financing, or acquisition of all or a portion of our business.
Third Parties and Partners. We may share the information with our third party partners, including advertisers and researchers. Or, we may work with a researcher to analyze the content on a particular feed.
In Response to Legal Process. We also may disclose the information in order to comply with the law, a judicial proceeding, court order, subpoena, or other legal process.
To Protect Us and Others. We also may disclose information if we believe it is necessary to investigate, prevent, or take action regarding illegal activities, suspected fraud, situations involving potential threats to the safety of any person, violations of our Terms of Service or this Policy, or as evidence in litigation in which Yik Yak is involved.
You can delete the content that you have posted from the public. However, Note Drop may maintain a copy of the content for records.
We may send push notifications or alerts to your device if you opt-in. You can deactivate these messages at any time by changing the notification settings on your device.
Note Drop is based in the United States. No matter where you are located, you consent to the processing and transferring of your information in and to the U.S. and other countries. The laws of the U.S. and other countries governing data collection and use may not be as comprehensive or protective as the laws of the country where you live. And, your information may be made available to government or law enforcement requests.
We may use automated devices and applications, included those offered by third parties to evaluate usage of our Services. We also may use other analytic means to evaluate our Services. We use these tools to help us improve our Services, performance and user experiences. The information collected may include unique device identifiers, device manufacturer and operating system, IP address, browser type, session start/stop time, and user activity. Apple, for example, allows the collection of analytics if you opted in.
At this time, Note Drop does not have ads.
We may display ads to you (including in-app ads), and we may target those ads based on your location, your Note Drop activities, and other criteria (e.g., the time of day). We do not currently respond to do-not-track signals that may be sent from your device.
We implement a variety of security measures to help keep your information secure.
All communication between the Note Drop mobile application and the Note Drop server requires HTTPS. Passwords are not stored, but hashed using well-researched standards.
